Coupler for Locking the Foot Brake with Steering Brake (Road)

CAUTION: When the engine is not running, pedal travel is longer (no hydraulic assistance).

NOTE: The foot brake may or may not have a steering brake.

  • With Steering Brake — Two Brake Pedals
  • Without Steering Brake — One Brake Pedal

The tractor's service brake is hydraulically boosted and delivers high braking force for relatively low pressure on the pedals. To actuate, depress the brake pedal (or both brake pedals on foot brake with steering brake), using whatever force is required. If necessary, the service brake can be applied separately to the left or right side of the tractor (single-wheel braking). Depending on driving conditions, certain special conditions affect usage.

Driving on roads with foot brake with steering brake

When driving on public roads and other hardened surfaces, always keep the two pedals coupled together with pedal coupler (A) (left illustration). As a general rule, do not uncouple the brake pedals unless circumstances dictate otherwise. If only one of the two pedals is depressed accidentally, there is a danger of the vehicle skidding.

Field operation with steering brake

When operating in the field, the pedals may be uncoupled if necessary (right illustration). This allows steering corrections to be made by depressing one of the pedals. Braking on the left side has the effect of steering the tractor to the left, and braking on the right steers it to the right.

Single-wheel braking can also be employed as a steering aid when maneuvering. However, this is permitted at very low speeds only.

After field use, couple the brake pedals together again.

CAUTION: Remember that the pedal (or the pedals) must never reach the stops, even when maximum force is applied. This is also true when the engine is not running and thus not providing any pressure boost. If the brake pedal (or brake pedals) reach the stop during braking, contact an authorized dealer immediately.

IMPORTANT: On foot brake with steering brake, when driving on roads and every time a trailer is towed, the pedals must be coupled together by means of pedal coupler (A).

NOTE: When braking, front-wheel drive engages automatically to create a greater braking effect.

On foot brake with steering brake, both pedals must be depressed at the same time.

In this case, the front-wheel drive indicator light lights up.
