Adjust axle knees

    Adjustable Front Axle Type A

    Raise the front of the tractor and support it SAFELY under the center part of the axle.

    IMPORTANT: Depending on tread width, the tie rods on both sides of the axle must be extended or shortened. See Use Tie-Rod Extensions.



  2. Unfasten lock nut (A). While doing so, hold tie rod (F) so that it cannot move.

  3. Remove cotter pin and castle nut (B).

  4. Use a copper- or plastic-headed hammer to drive out the end of the tie rod. Use a ball-joint puller, if available.

  5. Suspend the axle knee from a suitable hoist, and then remove axle knee screws (D).

  6. Move axle knee to desired position, install screws (D), and tighten to 400 Nm (300 lb-ft).

  7. Screw the tie-rod extension into the joint arm and then reconnect the joint arm to the tie rod.

    NOTE: Before installing the extension, the joint arm must be disconnected from the tie rod.

  8. Position joint arm on steering arm, tighten castle nut to 100 Nm (75 lb-ft), and install a new cotter pin.

  9. Hold the joint arm so that it cannot move and tighten the tie-rod extension to 300 Nm (220 lb-ft). Then check and adjust toe-in (see relevant information in this Section).

    After adjusting toe-in, tighten lock nut to 250 Nm (185 lb-ft). While tightening the lock nut, hold the tie-rod extension so that it cannot move.
