CommandQuad™ PLUS — Controls

The CommandQuad™ PLUS transmission can be shifted in all gears and ranges under load, without using the clutch.

Park lock lever

LX266777-UN-01FEB16

In position (A), park lock is applied to hold the tractor stationary and prevent it from rolling away. Park lock must not be engaged until the tractor has come to a standstill. This keeps load on the transmission to a minimum.

In position (B), the tractor is ready to move and an N appears on the instrument panel if the reverse drive lever is in its neutral position.

NOTE: The park lock lever can only be moved from position (B) when the tractor is stationary.

LX266778
LX266778-UN-01FEB16

A — Neutral Position
In this position, no power is transmitted to the drive wheels. N (see arrow) appears on the instrument panel when the park lock lever is in position (D).

B — Forward
In this position, power is transmitted to the drive wheels for forward travel. The direction of travel is indicated on the instrument panel as symbol (B).

C — Reverse
In this position, power is transmitted to the drive wheels for reverse travel. The direction of travel is indicated on the instrument panel as symbol (C).

To drive the tractor, move the lever to forward (B) or reverse (C). If the lever is moved from forward or reverse back to neutral position (A), the tractor will coast down until it stops.

IMPORTANT: Only the positions shown may be selected. Manually forced intermediate positions may result in malfunctions.

B - Indicator Light and Button for Range B

C - Indicator Light and Button for Range C

D - Indicator Light and Button for Range D

BF - Indicator Light and Button for Ranges B to F

NOTE: On the 20/20 transmission, only 5 ranges are available: A, B, C and BE.

The six ranges of the CommandQuad™ PLUS transmission are shifted electrically. Each range comprises four gears.

The respective ranges can be selected by pressing buttons (A, B, C or D). Depending on which range is selected, the relevant indicator light will glow. The ranges can be changed without operating the clutch.

Each range covers a certain speed range and is designed for certain work:

  • Range A: For primary tillage, at ground speeds
    from 1,5 to 2,6 km/h max. (0.9 to 1.6 mph).
  • Range B: For secondary tillage with rear PTO, loader and spraying work, at ground speeds
    from 3,6 to 6,4 km/h max. (2.2 to 4.0 mph).
  • Range C: For loader and spraying work, seeding, mowing, fertilizing and transport work in the field, at ground speeds
    from 5,9 to 10,4 km/h max. (3.7 to 6.5 mph).
  • Range D: For transport work, at ground speeds
    from 9,7 to 17.1 km/h max. (6.0 to 10.6 mph).
  • Range BF: Combines the ground speeds of ranges B, C, D, E and F, at ground speeds
    from 3,6 to 42 km/h (2.2 to 26.1 mph),

Range BF is recommended for transport work.

NOTE: Ground speeds may differ slightly, depending on transmission variant and tire size. See also ground speeds for relevant transmission “Operate the Tractor — General”.

When moving in range BF, the transmission shifts automatically between ranges B and F. In Auto mode, when the highest gear in a range is reached, the transmission shifts automatically to the next highest range. In transport work, the transmission automatically regulates engine speed to achieve the most efficient power/consumption ratio. In this case, both gear and ranges are selected by the transmission automatically.

With shift lever (B), automatic or manual shift mode can be selected.

Automatic mode: Move shift lever (B) to position 4 to select Auto mode. Auto mode indicator light (E) lights up on the instrument panel. In Auto mode, engine speed, range (in range BF only), and gear are commanded automatically to achieve set speed and to manage heavy and light loads.

Speed wheel (A) can be used to set maximum speed*. This speed is maintained automatically with engine at full throttle by using accelerator pedal or hand throttle. Speed wheel (A) can be used to set maximum speed*. This speed is maintained automatically with engine at full throttle by using accelerator pedal or hand throttle. It makes a change in relation to the previous setting. If the maximum speed setting is changed with speed wheel (A) while the tractor is moving, the change is always based on the last setting. Any changes are stored in the tractor's electronics. The currently selected maximum speed (F) is indicated on the digital display.

*Separate maximum speeds can be set for ranges A, B, C, D and BF.

Manual mode: In Manual mode, four gears can be selected per range. To select this mode, set the shift lever (B) to position 1. For shifting up, push the shift lever (B) forward from position 1 to position 2. For shifting down, push the shift lever backward from position 1 to position 3. After the shifting process has been completed, the shift lever (B) automatically moves back to position 1 again. On tractors with multi-function lever, gears can be shifted up and down using gear-shift buttons (5) and (7).

Indicator lights (E) on the instrument panel show the range and gear selected by the operator. If range BF is selected (for transport work), the indicator lights show which gear (C) and range (D) is currently selected. In range BF, the transmission automatically shifts into range E (for example) when the highest gear of range D has been reached.

Accelerator pedal and hand throttle

LX266783
LX266783-UN-01FEB16

A - Hand Throttle

NOTE: In manual mode, automatic engine speed reduction at low loads is not active.

Speed is controlled via accelerator pedal and hand throttle. The signal used for control is always the signal that commands the higher engine speed.

Engine rpm can be set to a specific speed using the hand throttle.

If the accelerator pedal or hand throttle is moved to command a higher engine speed, engine speed increases. If the tractor is driven in range BF, load-dependent engine speed reduction becomes active. Once the set ground speed has been reached, engine speed is adjusted automatically as required.

If the reverse drive lever is in forward or reverse, the tractor can be accelerated up to the set speed using the accelerator pedal or hand throttle. Ground speed at any particular time depends directly on the position of the accelerator pedal or hand throttle. Engine speed is directly affected by the position of the accelerator pedal only in Manual mode.

Whenever the accelerator or the hand throttle is actuated, the values set in the instrument panel for limiting engine speed are taken into account. This means, for instance, that even at full throttle the value will not be exceeded. In AUTO mode, the engine turns only as fast as needed, even at full throttle. As long as the accelerator and the hand throttle are actuated at full throttle at the same time, the load dependent cruise control is not active.

Foot brake / Brake pedals

NOTE: The foot brake may or may not have a steering brake.

  • With Steering Brake — Two Brake Pedals
  • Without Steering Brake — One Brake Pedal

Braking with AutoClutch function switched on

Braking with AutoClutch function switched off

If the foot brake1 is depressed when driving the tractor, the speed will be reduced or the tractor stops.

Thanks to the AutoClutch function, there is no need to depress the clutch pedal when braking.

When the foot brake is released again, the tractor automatically accelerates up to the speed currently commanded by the hand throttle or accelerator pedal.

Depress the foot brake1 to reduce the speed of the tractor.

To stop, press the clutch pedal at the same time to separate the clutch.

See also “Hydraulic Foot Brakes” and “Emergency Brake System”* in Section 45.

*Not for North America

CAUTION: On foot brake with steering brake, the AutoClutch function operates only when the brake pedals are coupled together. Actuating a pedal individually (e.g. to steer) does NOT actuate the AutoClutch function.

NOTE: For driving maneuvers using the steering brake (only one brake pedal is actuated), engine speed must not drop below 900 rpm, otherwise the AutoClutch function becomes active again.

Clutch pedal

When AutoClutch is engaged, there is no need to depress the clutch pedal to stop the tractor. When the foot brake1 is depressed, the AutoClutch becomes active.

When AutoClutch is switched off, the clutch pedal must be pressed to stop the tractor.

1 On foot brake with steering brake, depress the two brake pedals.
