Hydraulic Service Brakes

LX314958-UN-06JUL17
CAUTION: The brake system warning light (D) lights up if one
of the following situations occurs:
- Shines red, until the trailer air brake has reached operating
pressure.
-
Do not drive the vehicle until operating pressure has been reached.
CAUTION: When the engine is not running, pedal travel is longer
(no hydraulic assistance).
The tractor's service brake is hydraulically boosted and delivers
high braking force for relatively low pressure on the pedals. To actuate,
depress both pedals, using whatever force is required. If necessary,
the service brake can be applied separately to the left or right side
of the tractor (single-wheel braking). Depending on driving conditions,
certain special conditions affect usage.
Driving on Roads

LX314959-UN-06JUL17
Driving on Public Roads - Brake Pedals Locked Together
A - Brake Pedal Lock
B - Left Brake Pedal
C - Right Brake Pedal
When driving on public roads and other hardened surfaces,
always keep the two pedals coupled together. As a general rule, do
not uncouple the brake pedals unless circumstances dictate otherwise.
If only one of the two pedals is depressed accidentally, there is
a danger of the vehicle skidding.
Field Operation

LX314960-UN-06JUL17
Field Operation - Brake Pedals Uncoupled
When operating in the field, the pedals may be uncoupled
if necessary. This allows steering corrections to be made by depressing
one of the pedals. Braking on the left side has the effect of steering
the tractor to the left, and braking on the right steers it to the
right.
Single-wheel braking can also be employed as a steering aid
when maneuvering. However, this is permitted at very low speeds only.
After field use, the brake pedals must be coupled together again.
CAUTION: Remember that the pedals must never reach the stops
while the engine is running, even when maximum force is applied. If,
when braking, the pedals ever reach the stops, contact an authorized
John Deere dealer immediately.
NOTE: When braking with both pedals simultaneously, the front-wheel
drive engages automatically to produce an additional braking effect
on the front wheels. In this case, the front-wheel drive indicator
light lights up.
