Starting the Engine

causym CAUTION: Avoid the possibility of personal injury or death:

Be sure everyone is clear of tractor and attached equipment.

Start engine ONLY from the operator seat.

Do not start engine by shorting across starter terminals. Tractor will start in gear if normal circuitry is bypassed.

Engine starting with shift levers in gear indicates a malfunction of the starting circuit. Repairs should be made immediately by your John Deere Dealer.

Starting the Engine (Powershift Transmission)

Make sure transmission gear-shift lever (A) is in NEUTRAL position for Powershift transmission.

Starting the Engine (12- and 24- Speed Transmission)

Place gear shift lever (A) in NEUTRAL position and range selector lever (B) in PARK position.

For all transmissions, make sure SCV levers are in the NEUTRAL position and PTO is disengaged, if equipped.

Put hand throttle in slow idle position.

IMPORTANT: Avoid starter damage. Do not operate starter more than 30 seconds. Wait at least two minutes before trying again.

Turn key switch to engage starter and release key when engine starts. Use cold weather starting aids at temperatures below 5°C (40°F).

Engine Load:

Operate engine at slow idle with no load for one or two minutes. Do not put the tractor under full load until engine has reached normal operating temperature.

Rated continuous power is obtained at 2100 rpm. Working speeds down to 1500 rpm are suitable at reduced throttle.

Under full throttle and full load conditions, engine should not operate continuously below 1800 rpm.
