Servicing the Batteries

SERVICE INTERVAL - 250 HOURS

 

causym CAUTION: Battery gas can explode. Keep sparks and flames away from batteries. Use a flashlight to check battery electrolyte level.

Never check battery charge by placing a metal object across the posts. Use a voltmeter or hydrometer.

Always remove Battery ground cable (B) FIRST and connect it LAST. Do not let disconnected ground terminal touch metal surface.

Lift cover (C) to access batteries. Remove two bolts (D) from end panel to slide batteries from battery box.

WARNING: Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds, chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.

Keep all connections (A) clean and tight. Remove corrosion, and wash terminals with a solution of baking soda and water.

causym CAUTION: Avoid contact with poisonous sulfuric acid in battery electrolyte. It is strong enough to burn skin, eat holes in clothing, and cause blindness if splashed into eyes.

Check the specific gravity of the electrolyte in each battery cell. Charge batteries if reading is below 1.215. (See General Maintenance and Inspection Section.)

Check level of electrolyte in each cell (B). If low, fill to bottom of filler necks with CLEAN, SOFT water. DO NOT OVERFILL.

IMPORTANT: Do not add water in freezing weather unless tractor will be operated at least 30 minutes.

Coat terminals with small amount of grease and replace terminal shields.
