Using Correct Hitch Category

IMPORTANT: Excessive power can damage an implement and too large an implement can damage the tractor.

Correct clearance must be maintained on implements when attached to the three-point hitch of the tractor. Attach center link to lower hole (A) for most standard implements. Use upper hole (B) when implements requiring higher lift capacity are used. Use a combination of attaching points to achieve the following recommendations.

Measure implement attaching points:

Measure distance between lower hitch points (ball centerline).

  • Cat. 3N implement distance is 870 mm (34.25 in.)
  • Cat. 3   implement distance is 1010 mm (39.75 in.)

Measure vertical distance (mast height) between upper hitch point and lower hitch points. Distance must be 685-885 mm (27-34.8 in.) for hitch with Walterscheid couplers and 559-885 mm (22-34.8 in.) for hitch with quick coupler.

IMPORTANT: Interference or damage of front draft link attaching points can occur if dimensions of lower hitch point span exceeds 1010 mm (39.75 in.) and /or if draft link bumpers are incorrectly positioned. (See Converting Hitch Category in this section.)

Interference or damage to tractor SCV's can occur if mast height exceeds 885 mm (34.8 in.) for hitch with Walterscheid couplers or 559 mm (22 in.) for hitch with quick coupler.

Set tractor attaching points to match implement measurements.

Check for full range of hitch operation.
