Draining, Flushing, and Filling Cooling System

CAUTION:
Avoid personal injury. DO NOT remove expansion tank cap with hot engine. Stop engine and wait until engine has cooled.
1.
Lift hood and slowly turn the expansion tank cap (A) to relieve pressure, then carefully remove cap.
2.
Open the radiator and engine drain cocks (B) and (C) and drain old coolant.
3.
Remove thermostat cover (D) and thermostats. Install cover without thermostats. Tighten cap screws.
IMPORTANT:
Thermostats must be removed and cab heater must be in the ON position during the entire flushing procedure.
4.
Close drain cocks, fill system with a
commercial cooling system cleaning solution
. Bring engine to operating temperature. Stop engine and drain system.
IMPORTANT:
Never pour cold water or coolant into hot engine.
5.
Close drain cocks, fill system with
clean water
. Bring engine to operating temperature. Stop engine and drain system.
