CAUTION:
Avoid the possibility of personal injury or death:
Be sure everyone is clear of tractor and attached equipment.
Start engine ONLY from the operator seat.
Do not start engine by shorting across starter terminals. Tractor will start in gear if normal circuitry is bypassed.
Engine starting with shift lever(s) in gear indicates a malfunction of the starting circuit. Repairs should be made immediately by your John Deere Dealer.
Starting the Engine
Put transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL position and reverser lever in NEUTRAL, if equipped.
Make sure SCV levers are in the NEUTRAL position and PTO is disengaged, if equipped.
Set SCV control knob to loader (no-detent) position for tractors equipped with SCV operated loader.
Put hand throttle in slow idle position.
IMPORTANT:
Avoid starter damage. Do not operate starter more than 30 seconds. Wait at least two minutes before trying again.
Turn key switch to engage starter and release key when engine starts.
Operating the Engine
Operate engine at slow idle with no load for one or two minutes. Do not put the tractor under full load until engine has reached normal operating temperature.
Rated continuous power is obtained at 2100 rpm. Working speeds down to 1500 rpm are suitable at reduced throttle.
|
Under full throttle and full load conditions, engine should
not
run continuously below 1800 rpm.
Idling the Engine
Avoid unnecessary engine idling. Minimum engine speed should be 1200 rpm if engine must idle more than three or four minutes.
Restarting Stalled Engine
Restart stalled engine IMMEDIATELY to prevent excessive heat buildup. Continue with normal operation or operate at 1000-1200 rpm for 1 or 2 minutes before stopping.
Stopping the Engine
IMPORTANT:
Before stopping engine that has been operating at working load, idle engine at least 1 or 2 minutes at 1000-1200 rpm to cool hot engine parts.
Stop tractor and pull throttle back to slow idle position.
Put shift lever in PARK position before dismounting.
Lower all equipment to the ground.
Make sure SCV levers are in the NEUTRAL position and PTO switch is disengaged.
CAUTION:
Prevent possible injury. Remove ignition key switch when not using tractor.
Switch ignition off and remove key.
