Changing Engine Oil and Filter-8.1 L Engine

SERVICE INTERVAL -
  INITIAL-100 HOURS
  REGULAR-250/500 HOURS *
* 500 hours if PLUS-50 oil and a John Deere filter are used.

 

IMPORTANT: Change engine oil every 250 hours if diesel fuel has a sulfur content greater than 0.5 percent.

1. Operate engine to warm oil.

2. Stop engine and remove key.

3. Put a large catch pan below engine drain plugs (A). Remove plugs to drain oil.

4. Remove oil filter cover (B) using a 32 mm (1-1/4 in.) wrench.

5. Remove filter element (C).

6. Replace O-ring (D).

7. Install new oil filter and replace filter cover. Tighten to specifications.

Specification

Oil Filter Cover -Torque 40 N·m (30 lb-ft)

8. Install drain plug after oil has been drained from crankcase.

9. Refill crankcase with seasonal viscosity grade oil. (See Fuel, Lubricants and Coolant section.)

Specification

Crankcase with Filter -Capacity 24 L (25.4 qt)

10. Start engine and check for leaks.

11. Stop engine and remove key. Recheck oil level.
