Changing Engine Oil and Filter-6.8 L Engine

SERVICE INTERVAL -
  INITIAL-100 HOURS
  REGULAR-250/500 HOURS *
* 500 hours if PLUS-50 oil and a John Deere filter are used.

 

IMPORTANT: Change engine oil every 250 hours if diesel fuel has a sulfur content greater than 0.5 percent.

1. Operate engine to warm oil.

2. Stop engine and remove key.

3. Put a large catch pan below engine drain plug (A). Remove plug to drain oil.

4. Remove filter element (B).

5. Lubricate new filter seal with clean oil.

6. Install filter until gasket contacts surface. Hand tighten additional 1/2 turn.

7. Install drain plug after oil has been drained from crankcase.

8. Refill crankcase with seasonal viscosity grade oil. (See Fuel, Lubricants and Coolant section.)

Specification

Crankcase with Filter -Capacity 26 L (27.5 qt)

9. Start engine and check for leaks.

10. Stop engine and remove key. Recheck oil level.
