Transmission Description and Operations

Both POWRQUAD ™ Plus (PQ+) (40K) and AutoQuad-Plus (AQ+) (40K or 50K) are 20/20 transmissions, having 20 forward and 20 reverse speeds. Twenty speeds are achieved through the use of five shiftable on-the-go fully synchronized ranges (A-E), each with four shiftable gears (1st through 4th), in both forward and reverse.

Left-hand Reverser is standard equipment for all PowrQuad-Plus (PQ+) and AutoQuad-Plus (AQ+) transmissions, providing fully modulated shift capability between forward and reverse.

    • Range Shifts: Depress clutch pedal when moving shift lever (A) from one range to another. Refer to GROUND SPEEDS in Specifications section for Range/Gear settings.
    • Speed Matching: Depressing clutch pedal when making range shifts results in automatic gear selection, where the selected gear automatically matches actual ground speed.

      • Manual Gear Shifts: In manual mode, gear changes are made by pressing the upshift (rabbit) switch (A) or downshift (turtle) switch (B) on either the range shift lever or console. Selected gear is displayed on corner post monitor.

        • Automatic Shift Resume (AQ+ Only): Any manual shifting cancels automatic shifting. Press resume switch (A) to restore automatic shifting; automatic indicator (on corner post monitor) will light.

          Depressing the clutch pedal suspends automatic shifting, but does not cancel it. Automatic shifting will resume when clutch pedal is released.

          Automatic shifting is cancelled when:

          • Operator shifts transmission manually
          • Operator shifts to NEUTRAL or REVERSE

          • Automatic/Economy Mode (AQ+ Only):

            NOTE: Automatic and Economy modes operate in both forward and reverse gears.

          Depress AU/EC key (A) to activate automatic mode; AU is displayed on corner post monitor. In AUTO mode, engine speed and throttle positions are sensed, to shift gears automatically within the selected range.

          Pressing AU/EC key a second time activates economy mode; EC is displayed on corner post monitor. In ECO mode, the transmission shifts in a different RPM range than in automatic mode to conserve fuel and operate quieter while still shifting automatically.

          Pressing AU/EC key a third time, or any upshift/downshift switch, restores the transmission to manual control.
