Changing Transmission/Axle Oil-18-Speed Powershift Transmission
NOTE: Transmission needs to be calibrated after oil change has been performed. See your John Deere Dealer.
1. Parked tractor on level surface. Allow oil to cool for five minutes. 2. Remove plug (A) from axle and plug (B) from each drive hub to drain oil. 3. Install drain plugs (A) and (B).

IMPORTANT: Whenever oil is drained from the transmission for a scheduled oil change, the transmission will need to be pre-filled with 38 L (10 gal) of HY-GARD (JDM J20C) oil ONLY or damage could occur to transmission when the tractor is started. Transmission does not hold the total system oil capacity. Rear axle and PTO are included in the system. IMPORTANT: To ensure proper shift quality, an oil meeting HY-GARD or JDM J20C specifications must be used. Shift quality problems and/or transmission damage may occur if the HY-GARD or JDM J20C specifications are not followed.
4. Remove transmission drain plug (A). 5. Remove and clean sump screen (B). 6. Install transmission drain plug (A) and sump screen (B). 7. Drain PTO (if equipped). 8. Remove transmission pre-fill tube plug (C). 9. Add 38 L (10 gal) Oil (JDM J20C) ONLY to transmission at pre-fill tube (C). 10. Fill transmission/axle at filler tube (D) until oil level is between full marks on sight gauge (E).

Put transmission in PARK position and operate engine at 2100 rpm for five minutes.
12. Stop engine and allow oil level to stabilize in the sight gauge for five minutes. 13. Recheck oil level and fill until oil level reaches full marks (E). 14. Drive tractor, stop engine and allow oil level to stabilize in the sight gauge for five minutes, fill as necessary. |
