Ballast Recommendations

IMPORTANT: Extend drivetrain life. Avoid excessive ground pressure by adding too much ballast. Never add ballast resulting in continuous full-power loads below 4.1 mph (6.6 km/h). MAXIMUM OPERATING WEIGHT SHOULD NOT EXCEED 50,000 lb (22,680 kg).

Correct fore/aft balance should be maintained whenever ballast is added or removed. The best way to check for proper balance is to drive or walk beside the tractor during operation and visually check to ensure the entire contact area of the track is in contact (parallel to the ground) with the soil surface at all times with the implement engaged.

If daylight can be seen between the front idler wheel and the soil surface, make adjustments to the implement gauge wheels or add more front ballast to the tractor.

Note: Weights include 30-in. (76 cm) track, 1/2 tank of fuel, no 3-point hitch or PTO.

Recommended Starting Ballast for Towed Implements
(Average conditions-Generally Level Ground)
Model Front Weights * Total Track Frame Weights (Each Side) lb/Eng-HP (kg/kW) Front/Rear % Weight Split
9320T Support Only None 108 (66) 55/45
9420T 26 Supports Only* 103 (63) 61/39
9520T 26 Supports Only* 97 (59) 61/39
9620T 26 Supports Only* 88 (53) 61/39

* Add or subtract weight as needed for correct fore/aft balance and to maintain slip in the 2-5 percent range. Front weight support will accommodate up to 26 suitcase weights. Track frame weight supports will accommodate up to 32 weights on each side.

SPECIAL APPLICATION BALLAST RECOMMENDATIONS

For harder pulling conditions/steep hillsides, add track frame weights and/or supports to maintain slip between 2-5% range.

For 3-point hitch (integral) implements, 26 front weights are recommended for all models to counteract the weight of the 3-point hitch and implement.

BASE WEIGHT/OPTIONS
Base Weight * 3-Point Hitch PTO Frame Weights ** Front Suitcase Weights (Includes 26 Weights)
39000 lb (17690 kg) 2225 lb (1009 kg) 1050 lb (476 kg) 6900 lb (3157 kg) 3175 lb (1440 kg)
* Base weight includes no fuel, no cast weight or supports, no 3-point, no PTO. Includes 30 in. (76 cm) tracks. For 36 in. (91 cm) tracks, add 520 lb (236 kg).
** Includes 32 weights on each side

The key to proper ballasting is to use only the minimum amount of front weight needed to provide even weight distribution (fore/aft) under the track during field operation. Add enough ballast to stay within the 2 to 5% traction slip recommendation. The tractor is designed to run between 55% to 65% theoretical front idler/rear wheel split. When adding weight, install approved ballast on the front first, then work your way towards the back until the desired weight is reached.
