Changing Engine Oil and Filter-9230

INITIAL - 100 HOURS
SCHEDULED - 250 HOURS *
 
* Interval can be extended to 375 hours if PLUS-50 oil and a John Deere filter are used

 

IMPORTANT: Change engine oil every 125 hours if diesel fuel has a sulfur content greater than 0.50% (5000 ppm).

Refer to Fuel, Lubricants and Coolant section for more information on oil change intervals.

Operate engine to warm oil. Stop engine.

Put a large catch pan below engine drain valve (A). Open valve to drain oil.

NOTE: Do not remove relief valve plug (E) on filter housing. Oil in filter housing will drain back into crankcase when filter is removed.

Remove oil filter cover (B) using a 32 mm (1.25 in.) wrench.

Remove cap and filter element (C).

While holding cap, strike filter element against a solid surface, as shown, to unfasten filter from cap.

Discard used filter.

Remove O-ring seal (D) and replace with new O-ring provided with new filter element.

Press new filter element into cap until it snaps into place.

Insert cap and filter assembly into oil filter housing. Screw cap into place.

Tighten cap to specifications.

Oil Filter Cap - Specification

Cap -Torque 40 N·m (30 lb-ft)
Close engine crankcase drain valve.

Remove engine oil fill cap and refill crankcase with seasonal viscosity grade oil.

Crankcase Capacity with Filter
 
9230 ... 28 L (7.4 gal)

 

Start engine and check for leaks.

Stop engine. Recheck oil level.
