Replacing VARI-COOL™ Fan Belt-9230 9.0 L Engine

1. For disassembly perform the following: Raise hood.

2. Remove cap screws (B) and front right-hand side panel (A).

3. Remove cap screws (A) and finger protection (B).

IMPORTANT: Be careful not to damage sheave or belt when forcing inner sheave rearward.

4. Loosen bleed screw (C) 1-2 turns and force inner sheave (D) rearward.

IMPORTANT: Bleed screw (C) does not need to be completely removed for bleeding.

IMPORTANT: Bleed screw (C) is an internal drain that must be closed after sheave has been forced open.

5. Close bleed screw (C) and tighten to specification.

Specification

Bleed Screw -Torque 25 N·m (221 lb-in.)
Bleed Screw Jam Nut -Torque 25 N·m (221 lb-in.)

6. Using wrench (F) on square tab, hold outer sheave (E) and remove cap screw (G).

7. Pry outer sheave (E) evenly off shaft and roll pins.

8. Remove nuts (A) and position fan (B) forward.

9. Remove belt (C) between fan (B) and fan hub (D).

10. Install belt in reverse order on driven assembly and tighten nuts (A) to specifications.

Fan-to-Driven Assembly - Specification

Nut -Torque 35 N·m (26 lb-ft)

11. For reassembly perform the following: Pull or pry belt (A) into driven sheave (B).

IMPORTANT: Mating surfaces of sheave and shaft must be clean and free of oil or lubricant when installing drive sheave on shaft.

IMPORTANT: Make sure roll pins are aligned with holes in sheave.

12. Install drive sheave (C) making sure roll pins (D) align with holes in sheave.

13. Position belt (A) to outer edge of drive.

14. Hold drive sheave with wrench and tighten cap screw (E) to specification.

Outer Drive Sheave-to-Drive - Specification

Cap Screw -Torque 375 N·m (277 lb-ft)

NOTE: Belt will be loose on the drives until tractor is started and run.

15. Belt should appear loose in drive assembly.

IMPORTANT: Internal bleed screw must be closed for proper tension to be applied to the belt once tractor is started.

16. Check internal bleed screw to make sure it is closed.
