Changing Powershift Transmission/Double Reduction Axle Oil--9530 and 9630 Tractors

SERVICE INTERVAL - 1500 HOURS

IMPORTANT: Prevent premature axle failure. Carefully follow drain and fill procedure.

NOTE: The powershift transmission only needs to be recalibrated if transmission shift characteristics change after transmission oil and filter change. See Powershift Transmission Calibration procedure in General Maintenance and Inspection Section.

1. Park tractor on level ground and shut engine OFF. Allow oil to cool for five minutes.

2. Remove plug (A) from bottom of transmission.

3. Remove front drawbar retaining pin (B) and pull drawbar (C) rearward to access rear axle drain plug (D).

4. Remove front axle drain plug (E) and drain oil.

5. Install all drain plugs.

6. Change transmission oil filter. (See Replacing Transmission/Axle Oil Filter- 18-Speed Powershift Transmission in this Section.)

IMPORTANT:

a. Poor shift quality and/or transmission damage may occur if the HY-GARD or JDM J20C specifications are not followed. To ensure proper shift quality, an oil meeting HY-GARD or JDM J20C specifications must be used.
b. Do not operate tractor if oil is not above mark (C) in sight gauge with engine off.

NOTE: Do not perform oil check within 8 hours of transporting tractor in 15th or higher gear.

Start tractor engine and warm transmission/axle oil to above 35°C (95°F). Use CommandCenter display to check transmission/axle temperature. (See CommandCenter Section).

2. After oil is at desired temperature, drive to a level surface.

3. Shift transmission lever to Park, set engine speed at 1200 rpm and run for 3 minutes.

NOTE: DO NOT step on brake pedal during this segment of the procedure to avoid additional oil flow to the axles and resulting in an inaccurate oil level check.

4. Reduce engine speed to slow idle, shut engine OFF, and wait 5 minutes.

5. Check oil level on sight gauge on rear of transmission. Oil level should be between marks (A) and (B).
