Powershift Transmission Calibration

NOTE: The powershift transmission only needs to be recalibrated if transmission shift characteristics change after transmission oil and filter change

If shift characteristics change, use following procedure to calibrate the transmission.

IMPORTANT: Do not operate tractor or calibrate transmission without oil showing above low oil level mark in the sight gauge. Calibrating with a low oil will cause damage to the transmission/axle system.

To ensure proper shift quality, an oil meeting HY-GARD or JDM J20C specifications must be used.

Shift quality problems and/or transmission damage may occur if the HY-GARD or JDM J20C specifications are not followed.

NOTE: Use CommandCenter display to check transmission/axle temperature. (See CommandCenter SECTION.)

1. Start tractor engine and warm transmission/axle oil to 30° C (86° F).

2. After oil is at correct temperature, drive to a level surface, shift transmission to Park and set engine speed at 2100 rpm.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT step on brake pedal, which causes oil flow to the rear axles, resulting in an inaccurate oil level check.

3. Let tractor run for a minimum of 5 minutes at 2100 rpm without applying brakes.

4. After 5 minutes reduce engine speed to 1200 rpm.

5. Let tractor run for a minimum of 3 minutes at 1200 rpm without applying brakes.

6. Reduce engine speed to slow idle and shut tractor engine OFF.

7. Let tractor stand for a minimum of 5 minutes and check transmission sight gauge.

Oil level should be between marks (A) and (B) on the sight gauge.

Add oil at fill tube or drain oil if needed to obtain correct oil level.

NOTE: If oil in sight gauge foamy, proper oil level is at the top of the foamy oil.

NOTE: The powershift transmission only needs to be recalibrated if transmission shift characteristics change after transmission oil and filter change.

If shift characteristics change, use following procedure to calibrate the transmission.

8. Place shift lever in PARK position. Start the engine.

9. Press the Settings switch (A) on the CommandCenter™ panel.

10. Turn the CommandCenter dial (B) to highlight Diagnostics on display (D), and press the select switch (C).

11. Turn the dial to highlight Controllers on display (D), then press and hold the select switch until the next menu appears.

IMPORTANT: If CAL does not appear, tractor will move if shift lever is moved into forward or reverse position.

14. CAL should appear on the CommandCenter display. This indicates transmission calibration is ready to begin.

15. Adjust throttle to set the engine at 1600 rpm.

16. Move the shift lever to the F or R position to start the calibration.

17. If CLD appears which indicates the powershift transmission sump temp is less than 50°C. The calibration process will continue in order to warm the sump and automatically begin calibration when the sump is warm enough. If the powershift sump temperature (available in PTP Address 33) is more than a few degrees below 50°C, it may be faster to warm the sump by shuttle-shifting the tractor prior to attempting a calibration.

NOTE: In addition to powershift sump temperature available in PTP Address 33, it is also available on the lower half of the CommandCenter display (by turning the dial) before entering PTP diagnostic addresses.

18. C1H will appear which indicates calibration has started. Once calibration begins, do not:

  • Manually change the throttle
  • Move the shift lever
  • Depress the clutch pedal

or calibration will be aborted and must be repeated.

19. C1H indicates "Clutch 1 Hold calibration" is in progress. Hold stages for clutches 2, R, A, B, C, L, M, and H then follow in order. When all nine hold stages are complete, the fill stages for each clutch are performed in the same order. "C1F," "C2F," etc. will be displayed.

20. When END appears, calibration is complete. Depending on starting sump temperature, calibration typically takes 12-15 minutes.

If calibration aborts due to a fault (i.e. no engine or transmission activity is heard for a period of 30 seconds), the three-letter fault message will display on the CommandCenter, and it should be noted and reported. Another cal attempt may be made if so desired.

21. Turn the CommandCenter dial to select PTP Address 27 . Record the clutch calibration results for each clutch as they are displayed.

22. Turn the engine off. The PTP will store the cal results just obtained.
