Scraper Operation Cycle

RXA0064881

Towed Scrapers:

Follow manufacturer's instruction in attaching and using scraper.

9030 Tractor/Scraper Application Guidelines:

IMPORTANT: Operating tractor with three scrapers requires tractor be equipped with hydraulic trailer brakes. Reference "Towing Loads and Transporting with Ballast" Section of Operator's Manual.

9030 Tractor/Scraper Application Guidelines
Scraper Size Without Hydraulic Trailer Brakes With Hydraulic Trailer Brakes
21 Yard 1 2
18 Yard and Smaller 2 3
Mixed Capacity Maximum Total of 36 Yards Maximum Total of 54 Yards

Scraper Operation Recommendations:

  • Do not downshift or upshift transmission when in dig area.
  • Limit depth of cut to maintain a loading speed higher than 6.4 km/h (4 mph). For maximum power performance with 9430 and 9530 tractors operate in
7th forward gear or above, and for 9630 tractor operate in 8th forward gear or above.
  • Maintain minimum engine rpm of 1850 or higher.
  • Ballast tractor correctly to maintain optimum wheel slip of 8-12%.
  • Shallow cuts at higher speeds will extend drive train life and increase overall productivity.

  • Use APS (Automatic Powershift) for transport mode, not during loading or digging.
  • Use IMS (Implement Management System) to combine downshifts/upshifts, raise/lower scrapers or other functions when returning to dig area or to/from transport part of cycle. (See Implement Management Section.)
  • Drawbar height should be set so scraper cutting edge hits the ground before the scraper bottom. See Scraper Operator's Manual.
  • Load scrapers going downhill when possible.
  • Disengage differential lock when making turns.
  • Use of differential lock should be limited to tough spots or wet areas.
  • Do not downshift below grounds speeds of 6.4 km/h (4 mph) when under load.
  • When downshifting going downhill, do not exceed recommended engine rpm.
