Adjusting Clutch

CQ291722-UN-16APR12
It is important to keep the chopper slip clutch set properly.
The slip clutch should be checked daily. The setting may change depending
on crop yields. Heavier yields require the clutch to be tightened,
lighter yields require loosening of the flywheel nut. To do so, make
a mark on the chopper flywheel and cover. Cut one round in the field
and check the movement of the flywheel in relation to the mark made
on the cover. Proper adjustment will allow the flywheel to slip 1/8
to 1/4 of a turn. Tighten or loosen nut for proper setting.
NOTE: Over tightening of the slip clutch can cause premature
failure of the chopper, gears, shaft bearings and seals. Allowing
too much slip will cause the choppers to choke and the slip disc to
glass over.
