Adjusting Elevator Chain

  1. To increase chain tension, pump grease into cylinder fittings (A) on each side of the elevator.

CAUTION: Be extremely careful when relieving grease from the adjusting cylinder (B). Grease under pressure can penetrate the skin. Eye protection needs to be worn.

  2. The cylinders on both sides should be adjusted equally until the correct tension is obtained in order to maintain perpendicularity between the slats and side wall. Chain rollers should start touching the wearstrip on the lower part of the elevator at 304.8 mm (12 inches) from point (C).

Measure the chain, at the open section (E) located on the bottom of the elevator. The correct tension is 25 mm (1") of space between the chain roller and the end of the wearstrip.

  4. Also check for 12.7mm (1/2 In.) clearance on idlers. To verify this, the chain roller should just begin to touch the wearstrip at points (D) and (F). Tighten or loosen idler adjustment bolts as needed.

  5. The wearstrips are replaceable and should be replaced, along with all mounting bolts, when they have excessive wear.
