Every 50 Hours: Cutterbar-Checking Oil Level
IMPORTANT:
Too much oil in cutterbar will cause overheating and machine damage.
Use sight glass (A) at
BOTH ENDS
of cutterbar to check oil level.
1.
Park mower-conditioner on level ground.
2.
Raise mower-conditioner and engage cylinder locks.
3.
Level platform side-to-side by using a jack under the low end. Give oil time to level.
4.
Check oil level at sight glass (A).

Oil shows half full in both sight glasses. |

Both sight glasses completely full of oil. |

No oil in either sight glass. |

One sight glass full and one low. |
Level machine and recheck |
NOTE:
Approximate cutterbar oil capacity is:
946 Mower-Conditioner - 9.5 L (10 US qt; 2.5 US gal)
956 Mower-Conditioner - 10.4 L (11 US qt; 2.75 US gal)
5.
Add oil as necessary:

Remove cap (B) on top of fill hose.

Add John Deere HY-GARD
®
high viscosity oil, or equivalent. (See Cutterbar Oil in this section.)

Install filler cap.
