IMPORTANT: Filtration of oils is critical to proper lubrication.
Always change filter regularly. Use filter meeting John Deere performance
specifications.
NOTE: Change engine oil and filter for the first time after
100 hours maximum of operation, then every 500 hours thereafter. Change
oil and filter at least once a year.

Run engine approximately 5 minutes to warm up oil. Shut engine
off.

Open oil pan drain valve (A).

Drain crankcase oil from engine while warm.

Replace oil filter as follows:

Remove and discard oil filter element (B) using a suitable filter
wrench.

Oil packing (C) and install new filter element. Hand tighten
element according to values printed on filter element. If values are
not provided, tighten element approximately 3/4 — 1-1/4 turn
after packing contacts filter housing. DO NOT overtighten filter element.

Close oil pan drain valve.

Fill engine crankcase with correct John Deere engine oil through
opening on rocker arm cover (D).
To determine the correct oil fill quantity for your engine,
see the Specifications Section.
NOTE: Crankcase oil capacity may vary slightly. ALWAYS fill
crankcase to full mark or within crosshatch area on dipstick, whichever
is present. DO NOT overfill.

Start engine and run to check for possible leaks.

Stop engine and check oil level after 10 minutes. If necessary,
top up.
