If the combine harvester is to be stored for some time (during the winter months), metal parts of the engine must be protected from corrosion and the fuel system must be protected from gum-type deposits.
Protect engine, fuel system etc. as follows
· Thoroughly clean outside of engine with a safe solvent.
CAUTION:
Do not use gasoline !
· Drain, flush and refill cooling system with fresh coolant every two years (refer to "Fuel, Lubricants, Coolant and Capacities" section).
IMPORTANT:
Use only John Deere recommended coolant in the cooling system.
· Open rotary radiator screen and carefully clean radiator fins, using compressed air or a weak water jet.

· Drain engine oil and replace filter element. Drain oil while still warm. Refill crankcase with oil of specified quality and viscosity (refer to "Fuel, Lubricants, Coolant and Capacities" section).
· Drain fuel tank and flush it with clean fuel.
· Check fuel filters and clean them. Replace them if necessary.
· Fill up the fuel tank to avoid condensation.
· Clean the engine air intake and change the air cleaner primary and safety elements.
· Coat the cable terminals with petroleum jelly or grease.
· Periodically run the engine at half throttle.
