Adjusting Cutter Disk Cone Bearings

NOTE: Cutter disk cone bearing adjustment should be carried out after the first 10 hours of operation, thereafter check for play at disk every 100 operating hours.

  1. Before starting any maintenance work, see Parking Planter Safely in General Information Section to properly park planter reducing the risk of accidents.

  2. Raise planter completely until end of lift cylinder travel and install cylinder stops.

NOTE: Carry out service procedures with tractor switched off.

  3. NOTE: Two persons are required to carry out this step, one will hold cutter disk (B) while it is removed from planter.

    A - Nut and Bolt

    B - Cutter Disk

    C - Cutter Disk Arm

    Remove nut and bolt (A).

  4. Remove cutter disk (B) from cutter disk arm (C).

    A - Cutter Disk

    B - Protective Cover

    C - Lock Nut

D - Bent Lug on Lock Washer

Remove protective covers (B) to gain access to inner cutter disk hub components.

IMPORTANT: Observe cleanliness of area between protective cover and hub so that it stays always free of dirt. Impurities collected by hub during planting may cause obstruction of assembly lubricating lines, turning it vulnerable to damage or failures resulting from missing lubrication.

  6. Locate lock nut (C).

  7. Unbend bent lug on lock washer (D). This will release lock nut (C).

A - Cutter Disk Hub Shaft

Attach cutter disk hub shaft (A) so that it does not turn when lock nut is moved.

NOTE: Cutter disk hub shaft (A) should be attached to opposite side of lock nut installation.

    A - Hook Wrench

    B - Lock Nut

C - Lock Nut Position Recess

D - Cutter Disk Hub Shaft

Use hook wrench (A) for releasing or tightening lock nut (B).

NOTE: Other tools may be used to tighten or release lock nut (B) as long as they will not damage hub components.

  10. Slightly unfasten lock nut (B).

  11. Pre-tighten lock nut (B) and at the same time adjust cone bearings by turning disk completely at least two times clockwise and counterclockwise to ensure bearings are seated.

NOTE: Ideal adjustment for cone bearings is obtained when there is no play in cone bearings while disk turns without effort. This will increase bearing service life.

  12. IMPORTANT: Avoid tightening beyond specification. If applied torque exceeds specification, lock nut positioning recess of locking washer (C) may be damaged due to contact with cutter disk hub sahft groove (D).

Aplly a torque of 22 Nm to lock nut (B) to eliminate bearing play.

  13. Bend one of lock nut lugs to secure lock nut. If necessary, slightly adjust lock nut to mate with one of the locking washer lugs.

  14. Carry out steps 5 to 1 in inverse order to reinstall cutter disk to planter.
