Planting Depth Adjustment

NOTE: The pressure of the closing wheel may affect the placement and depth of the seed. Do not use more force than necessary to cover seed furrow, particularly in soft soil.

Do not include the full central furrow created by the closing wheels in any measurement of seed depth. The loose soil in this furrow provides protection.

The gauge wheels of the planting unit control seed depth. Adjust planting depth as follows:

  1. Raise machine to relieve weight of gauge wheels on unit and pressure on spring.

  2. Raise depth adjustment peg (A) and move forwards to reduce planting depth, or backwards to increase planting depth. If small adjustments are required, the peg can be moved hole by hole, on alternate sides, as if “walking”. Each hole provides a planting depth adjustment of 6 mm (1/4 in.).

  3. As a starting point, adjust all rows to the same depth.

  4. NOTE: During operation in the field, lower the planter when the tractor is moving forward. This will ensure that the furrow openers and seed tubes do not clog if the soil is moist.

Lower the machine and advance over a short distance at normal planting speed. Check the planting depth of each row.
