Multiply the selected factor by the spacing between rows (in centimeters).

We can calculate three different ways to position the row marker.

  • Add half of the front tread of the tractor (in cm) to the previous result.
  • Subtract half of the front tread of the tractor (in cm) to the previous result.
  • Only use the previous result (When this measurement is used, the point of reference must be the centre of the tractor).

The figure calculated is the distance (in cm) between the centre of the furrow openers for the seed of the machine's outermost row and the line traced by the marker.

EXAMPLE:

CQ188710
CQ188710-UN-19AUG99

To ensure increased understanding of the described procedure, we shall simulate a real situation.

The crop to be planted is soybeans and the chosen spacing between rows is 45 cm (17.72 in.), with a 13 row planter.

The tread of the tractor's front axle (measured from the centre to centre of the front tires) is 140 cm (55.12 in.).

Based on these data we can calculate the length of the marker.

Result:

The factor selected for 13 rows is 7.

Multiply the factor (7) by the spacing between rows we get:

7 x 45 cm (17.72 in.) = 315 cm (124 in.)

Adding half of the front tread of the tractor (140 cm (55.12 in.)) to this value: 2) we get:

315 cm (124 in.) + 70 cm (27.56 in.) = 385 cm (151.57 in.)

In other words, 385 cm (151.57 in.) is the distance (X) between the centre of the furrow openers for the seed of the machine's outermost row and the line traced by the marker, on both sides.

The markers can be adjusted based on the result of this calculation.
