CCS Description
The metering of seeds on the CCS acts a conductor for each row
unit; it always provides a small quantity of seeds in each row unit
to feed the meter.
The CCS seed metering system has one tank on machines with 18
rows or less and two tanks on machines with 20 rows or more, centrally
located for easy filling. Inside the seed tanks there is an agitating
shaft that prevents the seeds from compacting at the bottom of the
tank.
A hydraulically driven impeller supplies the flow of air that
is necessary to meter the seeds. A space inside the tank support structure
distributes the flow of air to pressurize the tanks.
The lower section of the tank contains a manifold. The manifold
has a cup for each row unit that pulls the seed in with the airflow
and delivers it to the row unit feeder. Inside the row unit feeder
there is an entry elbow that acts as an on/off mechanism for seed
metering.
The flow of seeds is cut when the level of seeds reaches to
lower part of the elbow inside the feeder. The flow of air is not
sufficient to overcome this obstacle and so the metering process is
halted. The seeds continue to be metered by a meter on the row unit,
ensuring precise and constant seed spacing.
