Single-Disk Pressure Adjustment

CQ190440
CQ190440-UN-14MAY08

The ground pressure applied by the furrow opener disk is adjustable in order to provide effective penetration in different ground conditions. Use the following criteria when calculating the appropriate pressure:

  1. Do not use more pressure than is necessary for the specific ground conditions.
  2. Note the manner in which the gauge wheel moves:
    1. If the gauge wheel sinks into the soil use the minimum pressure position.
    2. If the disk does not penetrate sufficiently into the ground to allow the gauge wheel to make firm contact with the soil surface, use the position of maximum pressure.

NOTE: Excessive pressure on the furrow may cause the planter chassis to become raised above the required height or it may substantially reduce traction of planter drive wheels. Thus, it may be necessary to add counterweights or reduce the pressure in order to maintain suitable traction.

To adjust the pressure, proceed as follows:

  1. Lower the planter and engage parking props.
  2. Remove cotter pin and pin (A).
  3. Insert pin (A) through the internal holder and hole (C) to obtain maximum spring tension, and through the internal holder and hole (B) to obtain minimum spring tension.
  4. Insert cotter pin.

When the furrow openers are adjusted to the minimum (A) adjust the locknut (B) to the end of the bolt thread.

When the furrow openers are adjusted to the maximum (C) adjust the locknut (B) so that 22 mm (0.87 in.) of the bolt thread remains above the locknut.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that a distance of 673 mm (2.21 ft) is kept between the lower part of the planter chassis and the lower edge of the furrow opening disk.

In very compacted soil it may be difficult to adjust to a suitable depth.

NOTE: The distance (A) must not be greater than 711 mm (2.33 ft) because the fertilizer tube may become obstructed with earth when the furrow opener enters the soil.
