Furrow Openers

CQ188880
CQ188880-UN-19AUG99

To avoid the accumulation of earth and dirt between the depth gauge wheels and the furrow opener disks, ensure that the gauge wheels are correctly mounted against the blades of the furrow opener disks.

When planting in dry soil the tires of the gauge wheels must slightly touch the furrow opener disks, or possess maximum play of 1.5 mm at their closest point.

When planting in wet soil the gauge wheel should be separated from the disk.

To change the position of the gauge wheels, remove cotter pin (A) and move gauge wheel arm inwards or outwards as required and replace cotter pin (A) in axle hole.

Position of Seed Disks

CQ191292
CQ191292-UN-02DEC04

Seed disks can be mounted in two positions:

Offset (A) or Concentric (B).

Concentric seed furrow opener disks are recommended for conventional planting. They can also be used for direct planting as long as the soil is light and with little coverage, known as "semi-direct". In this case the fertilizer furrow opener of the offset double-disk type is recommended.

Offset seed furrow opener disks are recommended for direct planting, in other words, for more difficult ground conditions, with ground coverage and uneven surfaces.

NOTE: The above recommendations are merely a guide, and do not dispense with the need to check planting performance. Whenever any adjustment is made to planter, check result in the field.
