Hoe-type Planter Gauge Wheel

The hoe-type planter gauge wheel was developed in order to provide greater precision, uniformity in the penetration of the fertilizer furrow opener and a decrease in power demanded of the tractor. The fertilizer, with this system, is always placed at a constant depth even over undulating ground.

Gauge wheel is located next to furrow opener and copies terrain variations precisely. The closer the gauge wheel is to the furrow opener the higher precision will be. For this reason, the gauge wheel assembly must always be positioned in as vertical a position as possible. However, care should be taken to ensure that the hoe is not positioned under a crossbeam. If this is the case the assembly must be positioned at an angle away from the crossbeam or on the other side of the furrow opener so that the crossbeam does not support its weight on the hoe.
