Tensioning Steel Track

To prevent unnecessary wear of chain links as well as guide wheels, drive wheels and bearings, tension the chain correctly on both steel tracks using the following procedure:

1. On flat and level ground move combine back slightly and then check deflection (X) by pressing chain at position indicated by the arrow.

2. With a ruler, measure deflection (X), which should be between 40 and 50 mm.

3. Tension chain if necessary. To tension the chain loosen bolts (A) on guide wheel bearings and then locknuts (B), tension chain by turning bolts (C) at the same time using the spanner included with steel track. Retighten bolts (A and B).

NOTE: Be careful to move bearings at the same time in order to maintain guide wheel alignment.

IMPORTANT: Never operate the combine with chains too tight, this not only stresses the whole assembly, it also causes excessive chain wear. Operation with a loose chain can also cause excessive wear of lower rollers and drive wheel teeth.
