At the End of Each Season-Engine

If the combine is to be stored for a long time (between seasons), the metallic engine parts should be protected against corrosion and deposits should be avoided in the fuel feeding system.

Protect the feeding system, etc as described below:

· Clean outside of the engine with a good solvent.

causym CAUTION: DO NOT use gasoline!

· Drain, wash and replenish the engine cooling system with clean coolant every two years (see the "Fuel, Lubricants and Coolant" Section).

IMPORTANT: Use only the recommended John Deere coolant in the cooling system.

· Open the rotating radiator filter and clean thoroughly the radiator fins with compressed air or water without pressure..

· Drain the engine oil and replace the filter. Drain oil while it is still warm. Replenish the engine crankcase with oil of quality and viscosity specified in the "Fuel, Lubricants and Coolant" Section).

· Empty out the fuel tank completely and wash it with clean fuel, then fill it fully with fuel to avoid condensation.

· Check the state of the fuel filters and clean them. Change them if needed.

· Clean the engine air intake, replace the primary air filter and the safety elements.

· Apply some petroleum jelly to the battery terminals and cables.

· Periodically run the engine at half throttle.
