What is threshing?
To thresh means to remove the grains from their pods, ears or sheaves, as is the case with soy, corn and rice, respectively. Over 90% of the grain is separated in this area, that is, they go past the large pan concave. The remaining 10% are separated by the remaining units. It could be said that the operation of all the combine depends directly on the threshing unit, for if this operation is not well done, all the other machine functions will be affected. For example, if the amount of grain separated by the threshing unit is too small, an excessive amount of grain will be cast onto the straw walker, together with the straw. There is bound to be grain loss through the straw walker
The threshing action can be either through beating (cylinder and toothed concave) or through friction (cylinder and bar concave).
