Chaffer
The chaffer makes a preliminary cleaning. The grains and smaller, heavier straw should go through it.
If the chaffer is opened too wide it will overload the sieve. The symptom is the tailing overloaded with straw.
On the other hand, if it is not open enough the tailing is loaded with grains, resulting in many broken grains in the grain tank. There are also more losses from the rear of the combine.
