Cleaning Evaluation
The grains in the grain tank should be clean enough to obtain the best value in the marketplace. Losses in this unit should be minimum and acceptable.
Grain losses in the cleaning unit may be caused by:
1. Air current too strong
The indicator are grains blown out of the shoes and a small amount of straw over the chaffer.
Solution: Reduce fan speed.
2. Air current too weak or chaffer open too wide
In this case, grain losses may be caused by excessive threshing (cylinder speed too high and insufficient opening between the concave and the cylinder). As well as by a weak air current or not enough opening of the chaffer.
Solution: Review the straw over the straw walker If the straw is too broken or chopped, the cylinder and concave need adjusting. If the straw is whole, then more fan speed will be needed to suspend the straw so that the grain may fall through the shoes; or the chaffer should be opened slightly.
NOTE:
Always review the results before making further adjustments.
