2° Step: Pre-Harvest Losses
Before starting to harvest take three measurements at different places in the area to be harvested. Place the frame transversally to the line planting. Count the loose grains and those on the fallen ears or pods found within the frame.
Add up the total grains found by the three measurements and divide the result by three to obtain the average grain loss at pre-harvest.
EXAMPLE:
First measurement = 30 grains
Second measurement = 10 grains
Third measurement = 20 grains
Total grains - 30 + 10 + 20 = 60 grains
Average pre-harvest Losses = 60 : 3 = 20 grains/m
