4° Step: Threshing, Straw Walker and Shoe Losses

CQ177610

NOTE: To make this measurement, the straw chopper or spreader must be turned off.

Place the frame behind the combine, on the harvested part, and count the grains attached to the pods, ears or sheaves inside the frame.

Repeat this operation in different areas three times.

Calculate the average grains lost by adding the results of the three measurements and dividing the result by three.

Subtract from this result the figures from the pre-harvest and cutting platform grain losses. The figure found is the threshing, straw walker and shoe loss figures.

EXAMPLE:

For the first measurement, 65 grains were found, 95 for the second and 80 grains for the third one. What are the threshing, straw walker and shoe losses?

Solution:

Total grains found = 65 + 95 + 80 = 240

Average = 240 : 3 = 80 grains

Threshing, straw walker and shoe losses = 80 - 20 - 50 = 10 grains/m 2
