Basic Fundamentals of the Combine

The reel (1) gathers the product and holds it to be cut by the cutting bar (2).

After that it conveys the product to the auger (3) on the header.

The auger conveys the product to the center of the header where the retracting fingers send it to the feeder house (4).

From the feeder house the product is carried to the cylinder (5).

The cylinder and the concave (6) thresh the product.

The beater (7) receives the gross straw from the cylinder and concave and launches it over the straw walker (8).

The threshed grains, the fine straw and some non-threshed grains (ear or pod ends) fall through the concave clearances onto the large pan (9).

The straw walker, with alternate movements, separates the remaining grains from the straw. The grains drop through the openings on the straw walker shoes over the chutes and from there slide to the large pan.

The straw is driven out of the machine through the rear hood (10).

The threshed grains and the separated ones, in turn, are conveyed along the large pan to the cleaning unit, comprised of the chaffer and sieve (11), and fan (12). The fan blows the fine straw out as the grains drop through the shoes.

The clean grains elevator (13) carries the grains up to the loading auger (14), which spreads them inside the grain tank (15).

Any product may not have been threshed (ear or pod ends) drops through the extension of the chaffer (16)

and is carried by the tailings elevator (17), returning to the threshing unit (cylinder and concave) to be threshed.
