Bleeding the Fuel System

Bleed the fuel system:

  • After every filter change.
  • Whenever the fuel tank has run dry.
  • After repair work on the fuel system.
  • If the engine has not been run for a while.

Bleeding Fuel in Fuel Filter

1. Loosen bleed screw (A).

2. Pump fuel by means of lever (B) at fuel transfer pump (C).

IMPORTANT: If no resistance is felt when moving lever (B) (of pump), crank engine through starter motor to change position of primer pump cam.

NOTE: Pump until fuel is free of air bubbles.

3. Retighten bleed screw (A).

Bleeding Fuel System at the Fuel Injection Nozzles

IMPORTANT: Always use a backup wrench when loosening or tightening fuel lines at injection nozzles and/or at the injection pump in order to avoid damaging the connectors.

1. Using two wrenches loosen the connections (A) of the two pressure lines at the injection nozzles.

2. Pump fuel by means of lever (B) at fuel transfer pump (C).

IMPORTANT: If no resistance is felt when moving lever (of pump), crank engine with starter motor to change position of primer pump cam.

NOTE: Pump until fuel is free of air bubbles.

3. Retighten connections according to specifications.

Specification

Connections of fuel injection nozzle pressure line -Torque 27 N.m (20 lb-ft)

4. Repeat procedure for remaining injection nozzles (if necessary) until all air has been removed from fuel system.
