It is necessary to check play of final drive flanged axle bearings on the completion of the first 100 hours of operation, every 500 hours and at the end of each harvest season.
When checking the adjustment, it is necessary to remove the front wheel of the machine and push the flanged axle (1) up and down.
If there is play, have the bearings adjusted by your John Deere dealer or, if you possess the suitable tools, adjust as follows:
1.
Drain final drive oil through drain screw (2).
2.
Remove final drive from machine.
3.
Remove bearing support (3) and shaft seal (5) of drive pinion (4).
|
4.
Install drive pinion bearing support (3), without shaft seal (5). Take care to assemble the same gaskets (6). Tighten bolts (7) of bearing support (3) to 60 N.m (44 lb-ft).
5.
Remove flanged axle nut cap (8) and locking pin (10).
6.
Check nut (9) torque, it should be 100 N.m (73.75 lb-ft).
7.
Rotate flanged axle (1) several times. Using an aluminum hammer, lightly tap both sides of flanged axle to seat bearings.
8.
Check flanged axle (1) rolling drag torque through nut (9), it should be 7 to 13 N.m (5 to 10 lb-ft). Adjust castle nut, if necessary.
