Grain Cleaning Process

The effectiveness of the chaffer and grain sieve separating action is increased by fan blast. Thus the chaff, which is lighter than grain, is blown to the rear.

NOTE: Air flow should be as strong as possible and grain loss should be kept to a minimum.

As a result of "overthreshing", the cleaning unit becomes overloaded, resulting in poor separation of grain from chaff. If there is a considerable amount of grain, it is dragged outside of the combine together with the straw.

  • Is there insufficient concave spacing?
  • Is there excessive threshing cylinder speed?
  • Is intensity of air blast corresponding to sieve load?
