Adjusting Threshing Cylinder and Concave
IMPORTANT:
Threshing cylinder speed and concave spacing are the two most important factors in obtaining good harvesting results.
Adjust spacing between concave and cylinder in order to obtain
optimum threshing performance
.
Incorrect adjustment:
Threshing cylinder speed too high + Concave spacing at minimum =
Overthreshing
Insufficient threshing cylinder speed + Maximum concave spacing =
Insufficient threshing
NOTE:
Overthreshing or insufficient threshing are normally caused by inadequate threshing cylinder speed or concave spacing.
Start with threshing cylinder speed adjustment. As a rule, reduce/increase speed by only 5%. Check the result of this change before changing any other settings.
If the problem is not solved by a 10% reduction in threshing cylinder speed, open/close concave spacing slightly. If these steps do not correct improper threshing, try reducing/increasing combine ground speed.
A very high crop volume and very high ground speed can cause underthreshing.
IMPORTANT:
Always check results before attempting further adjustments. Never change any adjustment by more than 5% at a time.
Correct adjustment:
Moist crop: Increase cylinder speed and/or reduce concave spacing.
Dry crop: Reduce cylinder speed and/or increase concave spacing.
