Changing Engine Coolant

causym CAUTION: Danger of scalding! Do not loosen or remove the radiator filler cap when coolant temperature is near or above boiling point. Always loosen cap slightly to relieve pressure before removing cap completely.

IMPORTANT: With engine OFF, wait approx. 30 minutes before draining system.

IMPORTANT: Regardless of the season, use only recommended coolant. Never use any cooling system additives.

Draining Coolant:

1. Open drain plug (A).

2. Open plug (B).

3. Wait until all coolant drains from system.

4. Close drain plugs (A) and (B).

Interior Cleaning of Cooling System:

IMPORTANT: Deposits of interior impurities can cause engine overheating.

1. Keep plug (B) half open to let the air leave the system. Slowly add clean, distilled water until it comes through plug (B), then close plug.

2. Fill radiator. Close filler cap (C) and complete filling via filler neck (D) until intermediate level between marks "COLD" and "HOT" is reached. Close cap (D).

3. Run engine at half-throttle until it reaches operating temperature.

4. Stop engine and drain system.

5. Fill system again (following steps 1 and 2) adding a radiator cleaner and following the instructions supplied by manufacturer.

6. Run engine at half throttle for approx. 20 minutes.

7. Drain system again.

8. Repeat Steps 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Adding Coolant:

1. Keep drain plug (B) half open to let the air leave the system, slowly add coolant until it comes out through plug (B), then close plug.

2. Fill radiator with coolant, close filler cap (C) and complete filling via filler neck (D) until intermediate level between marks "COLD" and "HOT" is reached. Close cap (D).

IMPORTANT: Only refill system with coolant when engine is cold and shut off.

3. Start engine and run it for approximately 5 minutes. Stop engine and wait until it has cooled down. Check coolant level in expansion tank. If necessary, add coolant to system and repeat procedure until air is eliminated from system.

IMPORTANT: When engine is cold, coolant level in expansion tank should be up to "COLD" mark.

NOTE: Make sure there are no system leaks.
