D - Battery Terminals (4 total)
Gases given off by battery can explode. Keep sparks and flame
away from batteries. Use a flashlight to check battery electrolyte
levels.NEVER check battery charge by placing a metal
object across terminals. Use a voltmeter, hydrometer, or battery tester.
ALWAYS remove NEGATIVE (-) battery connection first, and reconnect
it last.
Keep batteries clean by performing the following:

Turn battery disconnect switch to OFF position.

Remove cap screws and battery compartment cover.
-
Disconnect negative terminals (A) on both batteries.
-
Disconnect positive terminals (B) on both batteries.
-
Wipe batteries with a clean cloth.
-
Clean posts (C) and terminals (D) with solution of 1-part baking
soda to 3-parts water.
-
Reconnect positive terminals FIRST and tighten.
-
Reconnect negative terminals LAST and tighten.
-
Apply thin coating of petroleum jelly and baking soda mixture
on posts and terminals.
-
Install battery compartment cover and cap screws.
