Prepare Machine for Storage

  1. Slide open cooling tower screen and clean the following with air, water, or a vacuum:

    • Screen
    • Radiator
    • Hydraulic oil cooler
    • Engine oil cooler

  2. Clean air pre-cleaner.

  3. Clean outside of engine with a safe solvent.

CAUTION: Do not use gasoline to clean engine.

  4. After warming up and shutting off engine, drain oil. Replace oil filter and fill with correct oil. Add 0.66 L (22 oz.) of corrosion inhibitor to fresh oil. Run engine to circulate.

  5. Drain, flush, and refill cooling system with 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water.

  6. Charge batteries completely. Specific gravity should equal 1.260.

    • Up to 25 days of storage—Turn battery disconnect switch to OFF position.
    • Up to 90 days of storage—Disconnect negative (-) lead to batteries.
    • More than 90 days of storage—Remove and clean batteries. Store them in a cool dry place and keep them charged.

  7. Drain water separator bowls.

  8. Clean machine inside and out.

IMPORTANT: Do not use high-pressure washer spray directly on bearings. High-pressure water can get past most seals and cause damage. Dry these areas, then lube and run machine.

  9. Repaint areas where needed.

  10. Lubricate entire machine and grease threads on adjusting bolts.

  11. Check all fasteners for proper torque.

  12. Fill fuel tank to prevent condensation.

IMPORTANT: When fuel is stored in the machines fuel tank or farms storage tank for extended periods, or if there is a slow turn over of fuel, add a fuel conditioner to stabilize the fuel and prevent water condensation. Contact your John Deere dealer for recommendations.

For prolonged machine storage, the best practice is to drain BioDiesel and fill machine with regular petroleum diesel fuel. Otherwise use BioDiesel stabilizer (anti-oxidant) additives or fully formulated BioDiesel conditioners. Contact your John Deere dealer for recommendations.

  13. Every 60—90 days start engine and turn air conditioning ON. Run engine at slow idle for several minutes for compressor seal lubrication. Outside temperature should be above 5°C (40°F) for proper air conditioning operation.
