Change oil every 250 hours when using other engine oils as
specified in Engine Oil and Filter Service Intervals — Tier
2 and Stage II Engines or Engine Oil and Filter Service Intervals
— Tier 3 and Stage IIIA — PowerTech™ Engine in Fuel,
Lubricants, and Coolant section.Change oil every 375
hours when using John DeerePlus-50™ engine oils and a John Deere
filter. See Engine Oil and Filter Service Intervals — Tier 2
and Stage II Engines or Engine Oil and Filter Service Intervals —
Tier 3 and Stage IIIA — PowerTech™ Plus Engines in Fuel,
Lubricants, and Coolant section.
If operating at altitudes above 1675 m (5500 ft) see Diesel
Engine Oil Service Interval for Operation at High Altitude in Fuel,
Lubricants, and Coolant section.
Machine must be slightly tilted forward when draining oil. If
machine is on base cutter safety stops, it is tilted up causing old
oil to remain in pan.
Warm up oil. Run engine approximately 5 min. Set park brake,
shut OFF engine, and remove key.
-
Remove and retain cap screw (A) and slide drain plate (B) to
rear of machine.
-
Remove engine oil drain hose (C) from drain plate.
-
IMPORTANT: Not pulling hose all the way out traps dirty oil.
NOTE: Machine has extra hose length to drain oil into approved
container. Verify hose routing when draining oil so that all oil is
removed from oil pan. Care must be taken when replacing excess hose
back into engine compartment.
Pull hose out of engine compartment completely. Secure hose
inside an appropriate container.
-
NOTE: Dispose of used oil according to employer and government
guidelines.
Open valve (D) on engine oil drain hose and allow oil to drain
into container. Venting by removing filler cap lowers drain time.

C - Filter Housing
Dispose of used oil filter according to employer and government
guidelines.
Open right-hand engine compartment door.
-
Remove oil filter (A) and O-ring (B) from filter housing (C)
with a filter wrench or strap.
Drain oil filter housing for 30 s. Discard oil filter and O-ring.
IMPORTANT: Filtration of oils is critical to proper operation
and lubrication. Always change filter regularly. Only use filter meeting
John Deere performance specifications.
-
Replace engine oil drain hose to plate.
-
Clean inside of filter housing.
-
Apply clean oil to O-ring on new oil filter and install on filter
housing.
-
Tighten filter by hand until seal contacts housing, then tighten
1/4—1/2 turn more.
-
NOTE: Crankcase oil capacity varies slightly. ALWAYS fill crankcase
to full mark or within crosshatch on dipstick, whichever is present.
Do NOT overfill.
Fill engine crankcase with correct John Deere engine oil through
oil filler tube on left-hand side of machine. See Check Engine Oil
Level in Maintenance—Every 25 Hours or Daily.
| Item | Measurement | Specification |
|
Engine Crankcase | Capacity | 33.3 L (8.8 gal) |
-
IMPORTANT: Immediately after completing any oil change, crank
engine for 30 s without permitting engine to start. This helps insure
adequate lubrication to engine components before engine starts.
After start-up, check low oil pressure indicator light and check
filter for possible leaks.
-
Stop engine and check oil level after 10 min. Oil level reading
must be within crosshatch or at the upper mark of the dipstick.
