Primary extractor hood should be rotated so that trash is not blown into field transport system or uncut, standing cane rows. The primary extractor hood rotation may be synchronized to rotate when the elevator is rotated. See Primary Extractor Screen in GreenStar™ 3 2630 Display Screens section for more information.

  2. Performance decreases as fan blades wear. Blades should always be replaced before they are badly worn. When replacing blades, change them as a set. They are sold in a kit of 4, do not mix individual blades from one set to another. The four blades have been weighed and should not be separated. See Remove and Install Primary Extractor Fan Blades in Maintenance—As Required section for procedure.
  3. Vibrations in the extractor area of the harvester should be monitored continuously. As blades wear, the fan becomes unbalanced and vibrates. Running an unbalanced fan can cause severe damage to the harvester. Change all four blades if the set becomes unbalanced.
  4. When using variable speed primary extractor, set rpm of the fan when entering a new block of cane. The proper setting allows debris to be extracted without billets. Pay attention to the sound billets make as they hit the extractor hood. This indicates if fan speed is too high.
  5. Smart power mode allows the operator to reduce the speed of the primary extractor automatically when elevator is turned off. See Primary Extractor Screen in GreenStar™ 3 2630 Display Screens section for more information.
  6. Debris should always be removed from fan blades immediately to get maximum cleaning ability.
  7. Built-up dirt and cane debris should be cleaned regularly from hood and wear ring.
  8. Inspect blades every 25 hours. See Remove and Install Primary Extractor Fan Blades in Maintenance—As Required section.

NOTE: The fan speed changes as harvesting conditions change. For example, the amount of moisture in the cane, cane variety and yield all affects the fan speed. To maintain proper cleaning in all fields, fan speed should be monitored periodically throughout the day.

In some locations the sugar mill may request field trash to be sent to the mill to fuel the mill. In this case, the primary extractor should not be ran.
