Incomplete cut
The differential chopper system was designed not only to
extend blade life, but to improve and maintain billet quality. The
cutting action of the blades resembles scissors.
-
Maintain chopper system in good condition always.
-
The extractors separate leaf debris properly when blades are
timed correctly. The leaves, as well as the cane, are cleanly cut
by sharp blades when synchronized correctly. Blades need to have full
blade contact, but not gouge or hit hard. Make daily checks and adjust
if necessary.
-
Blunt edges and badly synchronized choppers cause incomplete
cuts and may result in reduced container weights. Some of these incomplete
cuts turn with the elevator slats and dangle from the cart guard.
The operator knows that blades need to be changed when they see this
happen.
-
Chopper system is available in 6-, 8-, and 10-blade configurations.
The more blades a chopper system has, the smaller the billets are.
Billet length can be adjusted further using the optional billet length
manual adjustment. For more information, see Billet Length Manual
Adjustment (If Equipped) in this section.
Billet Deflector Shield is a three
position metal shield used to deflect cane billets at the desired
angle as they exit the choppers. The higher the angle, the closer
to the primary extractor billets are thrown. The lower position prevents
light cane from going through the primary extractor. For adjustment,
see Adjust Billet Deflector Shield in Maintenance—As Required
section
Chopper Deflector Plate is an adjustable
plate installed underneath the chopper sill roller to help prevent
sugar cane return. For adjustment, see Adjust Chopper Deflector Shield
in Maintenance—As Required section
