Cooling System—Draining

    A - Drain Valve

    Avoid being scalded when opening surge tank cap. Open cap 1.5 turns to relieve pressure. Never open cap when engine is hot. Allow system to cool before draining.

    NOTE: Radiator drain is on front side of radiator.

    Cooling system must be drained and replaced every six years or 6000 hours.

    Open drain valve (A) on engine block.

    A - Surge Tank Cap

    Open surge tank cap (A) to allow coolant to drain faster.



  5. Close radiator drains and fill system with clean water.

  6. Install surge tank cap and run engine until it reaches operating temperature with heater ON.

  7. Shut OFF engine, carefully remove out surge tank cap and drain water before rust or sediment settles.

  8. Close radiator drains and refill system with a solution of clean water and John Deere Cooling System Cleaner PT500 or equivalent. Follow instructions with cleaner.

  9. After using cleaner, flush system with clean water and drain.

  10. Close radiator drains and fill system (refer to Cooling System—Filling in this section for filling procedure and Fuels and Lubricants section for coolant specifications).
